Session Times & Prices from January 2008

Piccolo sessions take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays during term-time. No booking required, just come along and pay when you arrive:

On Wednesday mornings we are at St. Mary's Church Hall in Monkseaton, Whitley Bay.
On Thursdays we are at Holy Trinity Church Hall near Jesmond Dene, Newcastle.
Babies are welcome at the mixed sessions for 0-4 year olds but the specifically baby sessions (at 11.20/11.30am) might be more suitable, unless they have an older sibling. The baby sessions contain more 'lap' songs and tend to be quieter, which some smaller children and adults may prefer.

Prices

All sessions cost £3.75 per child or £2.25 for siblings over 4 months. Adults go free! Refreshments included.

What happens at the sessions?

In a relaxed and friendly environment we sing both new and traditional songs and rhymes. Abi (and either Allison or Pauline) shows you the actions and encourage participation by children and carers, and Anna plays the guitar. The pace is lively and fluid, so children are involved and always keen to join in. Many parents tell us that Piccolo days are the highlight of their week - both for them and their child. The sessions are all 'live' with no use of backing tracks, so we can respond to the ideas and requests of the children and carers. We follow different themes which we cover for 4 weeks enabling you to learn some new songs, before moving onto something new. Our themes include Animals, Transport and The Sea.

For baby sessions, the focus is more on lap songs, tickly-cuddly songs and games, and gentle soothing songs. If you are a new parent we try hard to make it as easy as possible, with changing facilities, kitchen and extra hands if you need them! Older children get more active, dancing and moving to the songs, enjoying puppets and playing instruments, with a chance to try circle songs too. All sessions are structured carefully to maximise opportunities for children to join in, socialise with their peers, and explore singing and music in an entertaining way, as well as being enjoyable for the adults!

Wednesdays

St. Mary's Church Hall, Claremont Gardens, Monkseaton	9.30am	0 to 4 years old (coffee from 9.10 am)
	10.10am	Coffee break for both groups
	10.30am	0 to 4 years old (come early for coffee)
	11.20am	New-born babies to crawlers/early walkers (around 15-18 months)
	11.50am	Coffee break - and a chance to feed your baby or give them lunch if you need to! Kitchen etc available.

Thursdays

Holy Trinity Church Hall, Churchill Gardens, Jesmond	9.45am	From as little as 4 weeks to 4 years old - best for the older children
	10.25am	Coffee break for both groups
	10.45am	From as little as 4 weeks to 4 years old - a good group for tots who have outgrown the baby session
	11.30am	New-born babies to crawlers/early walkers (around 15-18 months) followed by coffee break at noon - a chance to feed your baby/bring lunch for them! Kitchen etc available.

There is always a refreshment break (all drinks and biscuits included in the cost) and after the baby sessions, there's even waitress service for those tired new parents, who can feed their babies and eat lunch in relative peace, with tea and coffee served by Anna and Abi!
